|---|---|
| Size | Set by TikTok; usually 720 × 1280 (9:16) |

The cover is the frame or image the creator picked when posting. It is a still image, not the video.
How it works
TikTok publishes basic details for every public video through its official embed service, the same one websites use to embed TikToks. Those details include a link to the cover image, which we show you.
Private, deleted and some region-locked videos have no public details, so they can't be read.
How to download a TikTok thumbnail
- 01
In TikTok, tap Share → Copy link on the video.
- 02
Paste the link into the box above and press the button.
- 03
Check the preview.
- 04
Click Download Image to save the cover.
If it doesn't work
- A short vm.tiktok.com link fails
- Open the short link in your browser, then copy the full tiktok.com/@user/video/… address from the address bar and paste that.
- "Failed to fetch TikTok metadata"
- The video is private, deleted or not available in every country. Check that it opens in a private browser window.
- The image is smaller than 1080 × 1920
- TikTok provides the cover at its own size, usually 720 × 1280. Our Image Upscaler can enlarge it if you need a bigger file.
- A copied image link stopped working
- TikTok image links expire. Download the file instead of saving the link.
TikTok thumbnail tips
Mind the buttons
On a 1080 × 1920 video, keep text 150 px from the sides, 180 px from the top and 420 px from the bottom. Check yours in the Safe Zone Checker.
Profile covers are cropped
Your profile grid shows covers as shorter rectangles. Put the cover title in the middle.
Big, short text
A cover on a profile is only a few centimetres wide on a phone. Three or four bold words read better than a sentence.
Good reasons to use it
- Recover the cover of your own TikTok
- Reuse your cover as a YouTube Shorts or Reels thumbnail
- Compare cover styles in your niche
- Check a cover against TikTok's buttons in the Safe Zone Checker
CTR Insight
"TikTok covers are cropped differently on your profile and in the feed. Keep your title in the middle of the frame so it survives both."
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it add a watermark?
No. You get the cover image as TikTok provides it.
What size is the cover?
Usually 720 × 1280. TikTok decides the size, and we don't resize it.
Can I download the video itself?
No. This tool only saves the cover image.
Does it work with private videos?
No. Only public videos have the details we need.
Can I reuse someone else's cover?
Covers belong to their creators. Use downloads for reference or for your own content.
